Brendan Shanahan has only liked two tweets in all of his time on Twitter, and one of them is a Pokemon-based lineup suggestion for the Leafs.
After the Toronto Maple Leafs signed Patrick Marleau and Dominic Moore over the weekend, people began to notice a trend in the players that the Leafs had been building their team around. With Marner, Matthews, Marleau, Martin, Moore, Marchenko, Marincin and McElhinney on the squad, there are a lot of “M”s in the lineup.
This silly observation prompted many jokes including one that may have had Maple Leafs President Brendan Shanahan chuckling.
Joshua Howcroft sent out the tweet above, then tagged us, James Mirtle and Down Goes Brown in a quote tweet to notify us of his joke, and somehow Brendan Shanahan stumbled upon it.
This could mean one of three things
- Shanahan is a massive Pokemon fan and this joke really hit home with him
- He loves that lineup suggestion and will use this tweet as a fun way to show Babcock.
- This was a totally random misclick and this is a totally unnecessary story to write.
Our gut tells us it’s the last one, but we’re still holding out that it’s some combination of 1 and 2. “Pokemon Fan Shanaplan” has a nice ring to it.
