There’s a line that needs to be drawn sometimes when media and fans takes things too far in pursuit of a professional athlete.
Take the city of Montreal, for example. It’s known for arguably being the most hockey-focused city in North America with its intense media coverage on one of the most historic franchises in the league. It’s a city like no other, with ananglophone and francophone reporters all trying to find any bits of information that could propel one another ahead of their fellow media peers. If you have a big scoop in Montreal that’s legitimate, you’re going to be talked about and questioned for validity.
Getting information in today’s day and age has never been harder with public relation teams coaching players and team personnel on how to be coy with the media. The Canadiens rarely show their hand, forcing reporters to dig for any sorts of information while leaving no stone unturned.
Some fans will go to extreme lengths when trying to grab an autograph of their favourite hockey player if he or she in the same vicinity as you.
For media members, it can be an entirely different story. Yes, reporters, bloggers and writers have a job to do, but that doesn’t excuse that fact that professional athletes are human beings, too, and need their personal space just like everyone else.
Going around with a DSLR camera and snapping unsuspecting photos in a sneaky manner is paparazzi at its finest, especially when you’re wearing all black with a hood on.
On Tuesday night, the Columbus Blue Jackets beat the Montreal Canadiens 2-1 at the Bell Centre. Following the game, Brandon Dubinsky was spotted flipping the bird to a Montreal media member that dances on the border of being a part of the Montreal paparazzi.
Now, at first glance you might think that Dubinksy was being somewhat of a entitled athlete that has no respect for the media. That’s really not the case whatsoever.
Check out the response Dubinsky gave to the individual.
To which the person followed it up with a pretty meh rebuttal.
Weak, bro, weak.
Scroll down and read the replies in that thread, and you’ll see that Dubinsky has taken the time in the past to pose for pictures with his fans in a very casual and respectable manner.
See? There’s a method to the madness.
Now this isn’t the first time that the person behind this Twitter account has gone full on creep level 1000 when trying to spot hockey players in Montreal.
The individual couldn’t help themselves, and took a picture of Stamkos taking a picture of him.
It’s never a dull day in Montreal with the way hockey is covered in Quebec’s largest city.
