When it comes to hockey rivalries, the Boston Bruins seem to be right at the centre of everything. The bad boy Bruins always seem to be able to get under the skin of their opponents, and mix that in with their consistent success in the standings and you’ve got a team that’s very, very easy to despise.
Now take the idea of where the Bruins stand compared to the rest of the league, and put that into one player. You get Brad Marchand.
Marchand is at the centre of all things Bruins. The trash-talking, the pestering, the scoring, the winning. Brad Marchand is a player teams haaaaate to play against, and he’s right at the centre of a lot of these Bruins rivalries.
Of all the rivalries, one of the most intense is the Montreal Canadiens. The Bruins and Habs seem to have a special kind of dislike for each other, and that came up recently when Marchand surprised a youth hockey team in Nova Scotia on a group Zoom call.
Getting kids to guess who the guest is may have been a bold move considering it’s Marchand. There’s a good chance there’s a few kids that have had some sort of negativity towards the Bruins forward at some point, but either way it was a cool move for Marchand to surprise them.
Besides, everyone behaved themselves. Even Marchand!
