Bob McKenzie is the original hockey insider, so when he starts talking about trades, everyone listens.
McKenzie has his own bi-weekly podcast called the Bobcast and it’s a treasure trove for little tidbits of information behind the curtain in the NHL. With one of the busiest times of the year coming up for NHL GMs, McKenzie seemed to have some extra information for his listeners.
One of the biggest pieces of information to extract from the latest episode was what he had to say about Jeff Skinner:
“I think there’s a really good chance that Jeff Skinner’s time is up in Carolina. The feeling is that he will almost certainly be traded.”
Skinner has one year left on his contract at a $5.75M AAV and has scored 61 goals and 112 points in the last two seasons.
This stemmed from the fact that Thomas Dundon, the Carolina Hurricanes GM, has made it clear that virtually any player other than Sebastian Aho is available. McKenzie is not quite so sure that is entirely true, as he also pointed out that he doesn’t think they would really consider moving Jordan Staal, Teuvo Teravainen or Martin Necas are going anywhere.
For trade information, he eluded to the fact that there could be a lot of movement in Buffalo as well. Ryan O’Reilly was one name that came up a couple of times, but he didn’t make any suggestions as strong as the one about Skinner.
