Finally, Bo Bichette was unable to reach base on Friday, putting an end to his 17-game streak of getting on base to begin his career. That’s easily a franchise record, and ties Bill Russell for second all-time, trailing only Rocco Baldelli’s 24. Not a bad first impression, right?
Temporary setback. Bichette was right back to business on Saturday, mashing his fifth career home run against the Mariners.
With that, he’s up to 17 extra base hits through 19 games, which is good for another entry in the record books. Bichette passed Mandy Brooks and Joe DiMaggio to take sole possession of this one.
By his 11th game in the majors, Bichette was the only player in MLB history ever to double in nine straight games, so, you know, extra-base hits are sort of his thing.
So, yeah, you might want to get used to it. Not to get too excited too soon, but the future appears bright with Bichette, Vladdy Jr. and Cavan Biggio holding things down.
