This is probably one of the least Bill Belichick things Bill Belichick has ever said.
The Patriots were projected to be Super Bowl contenders going into the start of the season, but are struggling with a 2-5 record going into Week 9.
In a recent interview, Belichick was openly candid in his response when pressed about the Patriots current performance stating that the Patriots are paying the price they "sold out" and won three Super Bowl titles. He mentioned that the Pats have less to work with this year, "it's not an excuse. It's just the facts."
"I didn't say it as an excuse. I never said that. Look, we paid Cam Newton a million dollars. It's obvious we didn't have any money. It's nobody's fault. That's what we did the last five years. We sold out and won three Super Bowls, played in a fourth, and played in an AFC championship game. This year we have less to work with. It's not an excuse. It's just a fact."
The post-Brady era in New England doesn't look to be going as planned. Cam Newton isn't putting up the performance that fans expected of him and they blew a must-win game.
What will the future of the Patriots look like?
