Bianca Andreescu has become a household name in Canadian households after blasting up the WTA rankings all the way to number five faster than a rocket ship. It all came to a peak moment when the 19-year-old was able to take down Serena Williams in New York to secure the first major singles title ever won by a Canadian.

Pretty cool, but how much do Canadians really care? Well, the viewership numbers really speak for themselves on that one…

With her unforgettable championship run at the 2019 US OPEN, Canadian tennis sensation Bianca Andreescu has smashed audience records. Preliminary data from Numeris confirms that her straight sets victory over Serena Williams in Saturday’s Women’s Final attracted a record average audience of 3.4 million viewers, making it the most-watched tennis broadcast ever on TSN and RDS and attracting a higher average audience than that of the 2019 Stanley Cup Final.

On top of that, the match carried a viewership share of 58% on TSN in Toronto. That means of all the televisions that were being watched on Saturday afternoon in Canada’s largest city, over half were tuned into the match.

Throughout the match, more than 7.4 million were estimated to watch a piece of the match, and at 5:59pm ET – right around when Bianca won – viewership on TSN peaked at 5.3 million.

This was the most watched tennis match ever on TSN, and the most-watched broadcast since the Toronto Raptors clinched their franchise first championship.

Beating out the Stanley Cup Final in Canada is nothing to scoff at – that’s the true showing of a country rallying behind their own.
