The Toronto Blue Jays took another few steps towards building a path to the future, shipping Aaron Sanchez, Joe Biagini and prospect Cal Stevenson to the Houston Astros, as well as sending bullpen pitcher Daniel Hudson to the Washington Nationals.
Coming in the two deals to Toronto are 26-year-old outfielder Derek Fisher and 23-year-old RHP Kyle Johnston.
A first-rounder in the 2014 draft, Fisher is slashing .286/.401/.522 for the Round Rock Express (Triple-A) with 14 home runs and 36 RBIs in 224 at-bats (60 games played).
With 112 career MLB games with the Astros, he's batted just .201/.282/.367 with 10 homers and 33 RBIs.
Johnson was the 27th ranked prospect in the Nationals farm system. Johnston has a 9-9 record with a 4.03 ERA in 105 innings pitched in Class-A-Advanced.
By moving out the three pitchers, the Blue Jays have now moved a major chunk of their top pitchers, offloading Sanchez, Biagini and Hudson along with Marcus Stroman and David Phelps in days prior.
Fans of the Jays, media members and general managers around baseball haven't been impressed with the returns that general manager Ross Atkins and president Mark Shapiro have yielded.
Case in point, the words "Atkins," "Shapiro," "Atkins" and Shapiro" and "Shapiro and Atkins" were trending on Twitter on Wednesday night.
Here are some of the best reactions from around the baseball world.
