If your favourite MLB player isn’t Bartolo Colon, just find a new sport to watch. Baseball doesn’t want you anymore.
The man that is endearingly called “Big Sexy” is notably likable for a number of reasons. First of all, he is 44-years-old. This man is the Jaromir Jagr of baseball, and not to mention the only remaining player to have played for the Montreal Expos. On top of his age, his physique isn’t exactly the most typical of a professional athlete. He weighs almost 300lbs and still manages to be an effective major league pitcher.
The combination leads to one of the funnier players in league history, and the former Cy Young Award winner continues to solidify his place in baseball lore with plays like the comebacker he took during Wednesday’s start against the Seattle Mariners.
Not only was he alright after, he went on to chuck 7.2 innings of scoreless baseball – the longest outing of a Texas Rangers pitcher all year. He only gave up four hits, and didn’t walk a batter. After the game, Colon credited his belly for such a formidable job at protecting him from injury.
This is the most impressive feat since the last time the Rangers played the Mariners and Colon managed to beat out Dee Gordon – the MLB’s stolen base leader at the time – in a footrace.
285lbs of pure legend continues to get the job done.
