Is it reallllllly necessary to send the top power-play unit out with an 8-3 lead late in the third period? Not according to Barry Trotz, and probably most other coaches in the NHL.
Peter Laviollete did just that as his Predators were dominating the Islanders on Tuesday night and the whole thing didn’t sit too well with his adversary. Trotz, who’s been coaching against Laviolette since 2001, insisted he wouldn’t have done the same thing if he were in the same position. Apparently the 57-year-old learnt a lot about Laviolette based on his decision.
Jeez Barry, tell us how you really feel!
Nashville did manage to score two power-play goals but neither of them came on the late 5-on-3. Seven different Preds found the back of the net while only seven failed to find the scoresheet. Nashville scored seven straight goals after trailing 3-1 in the third.
So many sevens…
The Predators will host the Isles on February 13th so some revenge could be in order if NY jumps out to a big late lead.
