Auston Matthews is known around the NHL for a number of things. He’s known for his fashion sense and his ridiculous wrist shot, but over the past couple seasons he’s become known for something else – his mustache.
While he hasn’t been exclusively ‘stached, the thin black facial hair has lived on the Toronto Maple Leafs star’s face more often than not. As a result, Matthews is the perfect subject for a Movember fundraiser.
Movember, of course, is the annual event responsible for a lot of November mustaches worldwide. In support of prostate cancer, men grow out their facial hair for the month of November and, in return for looking a little… er… different, they accept donations from entertained onlookers.
This Movember, Matthews set out to achieve a particular goal. Now, with 10 days remaining in the month, he’s officially breached the $134,000 threshold.
While Matthews likely would have gained a lot of donations simply for participating, he gave fans a different kind of incentive to donate. He promised that if his mustache was able to gain $134,000 in donations, he would shave the mustache off.
It’s like… reverse Movember???
