Auston Matthews has been absolutely dominant through his first five games of the NHL regular season and he’s been making a little history in the process.

The 21-year-old recorded his 10th, 11th and 12th point in a 5-3 win against the Detroit Red Wings last night, making it his fifth multi-point effort in as many games to start the season. With that, Matthews surpassed Wayne Gretzky as the youngest player in NHL history to open up his season with five consecutive multi-point efforts. He also became just the 12th player ever to accomplish the feat.

Think he was done there? Well, think again! Matthews also tied the record for most goals through the first five games to start the season with a league-leading nine.

That’s some pretty elite company right there!

Aussie hasn’t been the only Leaf shredding up the competition this year, as free agent shark John Tavares has recorded 10 points of his own. Matthews didn’t shy away when asked about his play.

Auston #Matthews was very blunt when asked a question about John #Tavares’ play.

The sky seems to be the limit with the team on the offensive side of the rink.
