Toronto Maple Leafs fans have a lot to be excited about heading into the upcoming NHL season after the impressive offseason the front office had. Aside from the signing of John Tavares, Leafs fans are also extremely excited about the outstanding development so far from their young guns, especially Auston Matthews.
After scoring 40 goals and totaling 69 points in 82 games during his rookie season, Matthews avoided a sophomore slump by scoring 34 goals and 63 points, but he had his season cut down to 62 games due to injuries. With the Leafs back on the ice for training camp for the first time this year, it didn’t take Matthews very long to show that he’s ready for the regular season to get going.
During a shootout at practice, Matthews impressed everyone in attendance by doing his impression of the now famous Nikita Kucherov shootout move.
One of the guys closest to Matthews in Mitch Marner didn’t seem too shocked by the move as he apparently called it, in a way, right before it happened.
The future is very, very bright for the Maple Leafs.
