If there’s one big knock that hockey players hear constantly, it’s that they lack personality when it comes to front facing media. Players are so media trained that you’ll hardly ever hear something that isn’t an overused cliché come out of a player’s mouth. The hockey world is one that values tradition, but some may argue that it takes away from individuality.
For example, take the league’s dress code. You will hardly ever see a player wearing anything of note, and when the team disembarks from the bus they basically look like cookie-cutter versions of each other.
With the NHL’s bubble-life fast approaching, it’s clear that just about everything is different. That includes the dress code, which is much more relaxed than when fans are in attendance.
For some, this may mean a hoodie and jeans. For others like P.K. Subban, Henrik Lundqvist, and Toronto Maple Leafs centre Auston Matthews it may mean something a little more.
For a number of years now, Matthews has been one of the more notably fashionable players in the league (following in the footsteps of the previously mentioned Subban and Lundqvist). Matthews was features in GQ magazine, where he modeled a number of looks.
In response, some fans are excited for the shake up, others just want the suit-life back.
