Auston Matthews is not to be trifled with at the moment – it seems like they guy just can’t lose.

Every night he just racks up more and more points and now he’s even adding more wins in practice. Apparently Jake Gardiner has been doing some chirping about the Leafs’ forwards’ abilities to finish on 2-on-1s and Matthews didn’t take to kindly to it. The two made a bet about it before practice and Matthews shut Gardiner and Nikita Zaitsev.

Matthews had a lot of fun talking to Mark Masters about it after the game.

It was a rough showing for Gardiner and Zaitsev, but as Jake said, they’re not Auston Matthews. They’re not expected to score on 2-on-1s and Matthews got a little help from his goaltender.

Either way, if how the Leafs have been scoring has been when they can’t convert on 2-on-1s, we can’t imagine what it’s going to be like when they can.
