If we learned anything in the past year, it’s that people LOVE sports documentaries. The success of the Last Dance has put sport documentaries on the rise and now we have another to add to our “need to watch” list.
The women of the WNBA.
And it’s being produced by ESPN with the help of none other than Los Angeles Sparks star player, Chiney Ogwumike.
Ogwumike who will be serving as executive producer for the documentary posted the following clip to her personal Twitter account Tuesday evening.
Going beyond the court, the documentary will follow the league’s activism that was heavily showcased during the 2020 season.
The WNBA has been trailblazers within social justice movements, leading the charge and using their platforms to be voices for various issues, predominately the BLM movement this past July.
Within the clip, Atlanta Dream’s Elizabeth Williams and Sue Bird sheds light on Atlanta Dream’s stakeholder and now ex-Georgia Senator Kelly Loeffler and how the league worked to fund and promote Raphael Warnock to go up against Loeffler in the U.S. Senate race.
Ogwumike will be adding the executive producer role to her belt after joining ESPN in 2017 as an NBA and WNBA analyst, while still competing within the league. Since then, she has additionally become the first Black woman to host a national daily sports radio show as she co-hosts with Mike Golic Jr., Chiney and Golic Jr.
The release date of the documentary is not yet known but we are absolutely adding it to our must watch sports documentary list.
