Andrei Svechnikov has put the league on notice during his young NHL career. He’s flashed some ridiculous puck skills that are nearly unmatched in the league, and proven that he’s got a nose for scoring while still tossing his body around a bit.
It’s all the qualities you want in a young player and then some, and the Carolina Hurricanes are certainly happy he’s suiting up in their uniform for now.
The Detroit Red Wings are likely hoping to get some of that Svechnikov production in their lineup pretty soon, although not from Andrei. The Wings drafted Evgeny Svechnikov with the 19th overall pick in 2015, but he’s still trying to make his mark in the NHL.
So far, Evgeny – who is four years older than Andrei – has appeared in 20 NHL games, recording two goals and two assists. He’s hoping to break into the 23-man opening night roster this season, which would hopefully set him up for a meeting with his brother.
(It should be noted that Evgeny apparently got hurt at practice on Tuesday. The severity is not yet known.)
While we are (obviously) excited about two brothers squaring off, it seems like Andrei is too. On Tuesday, he explained that it’s always been “a little dream” of theirs, before turning wholesome into hilaraious by immediately explaining that he may go try to hit him.
Ahhh, brotherly love. We wouldn’t have it any other way.
