Andrei Svechnikov is primed and ready for another big year with 6 points in 6 games thus far. Barring injury, he’s likely going to finish the year as one of the more well-rounded stat-stuffers in the NHL. There isn’t really much that he doesn’t do.
Fortunately, he appears to have escaped a potential injury during Carolina’s shootout win against Dallas. With possession being a very important part of overtime game-play, Svechnikov didn’t want to put the ‘Canes offside and risk losing it. Instead, he managed to pull off a stretch that Elastigirl from The Incredibles would have been proud of.
All captured in this one fantastic screenshot, Svech can be seen nearly going fully into the splits to keep his skate on the right side of the blue line.
HOW do you not pull a groin on that play? It’s one thing to be able to drop that low into the splits, but to do so while skating in a fast-paced NHL overtime game?
