Tuesday night was a bitter-sweet one for the San Jose Sharks.

California’s only remaining team managed to pull off one of the greatest comebacks in NHL history, but it came at a cost. Down 3-0 in the third period, Sharks captain Joe Pavelski drew a 5 minute major on a scary cross-check from Cody Eakin. The 34-year-old laid injured on the ice, bleeding from his head before eventually getting helped off into the dressing room. Moments before leaving the action, his long-time teammate and good friend Joe Thornton helped take care of him on the bench and it made for one of the more touching moments of the season.

On the bright side, everything worked out on the playing surface afterward. SJ somehow managed to score FOUR straight goals on the ensuing power-play to take a 4-3 lead. Golden Knights forward Jonathan Marchessault managed to pot one home before regulation ended but San Jose eventually came out on top after an overtime winner from forward Barclay Goodrow.

Despite the injury, Marchessault didn’t hold back his thoughts on the call. He was absolutely furious afterward, calling the penalty a “joke” and “embarrassing”.

An update on Pavelski’s health has not been released, but he'll likely be out of the lineup when Game 1 goes down against the Colorado Avalanche on Thursday night.
