Kevin Pillar is a Toronto Blue Jay no more.
On Tuesday, the organization shipped him to the San Francisco Giants in exchange for infielder Alen Hanson and right-handed pitchers Derek Law and Juan De Paula. Pillar spent his entire career until the trade in Toronto, so it wasn’t surprising to see him tear up while addressing the news with the media. The man who the city dubbed their ‘Superman’ made sure to share a special message with fans before making a return to his native California.
IS SOMEONE CUTTING ONIONS?! SERIOUSLY?!?!?!?!
Confirmed: Someone is in fact cutting onions.
Pillar admitted just hours before getting moved that trade talks had in fact taken a toll on him. The outfielder, who started his family in Toronto, told TSN’s Scott Mitchell “that stuff is never easy” and pointed to the fact that few players are left from the team’s 2015 & 2016 seasons. He now joins a list including Josh Donaldson, Jose Bautista, Troy Tulowitzski, David Price and Edwin Encarnacion to leave town from those teams.
In his first game with the Giants, Pillar went 0-1 with a K but we have a feeling he’ll quickly make his mark in centre field at Oracle Park.
