One thing that a lot of hockey fans love about the sport is the toughness it takes to play. In a sport where players collide at high speed and occasionally bare-knuckle box, it’s certainly not for the faint of heart.
Saying that, there is an underbelly. Dirty hits and scary injuries come along with the physicality of hockey, and occasionally it can lead to a scary situation.
On Saturday, Tanner Kero was the victim of a scary moment when Brett Connolly caught him while he wasn’t looking. Kero hit the ice and it was immediately clear that the motionless Dallas Stars player was in trouble.
Kero was brought to the hospital, and following the game Joe Pavelski – who dealt with his own scary injury in playoffs a few years ago – was extremely emotional speaking on it.
Following the scary moment, which happened early in the 1st period, Pavelski would go on to score two goals and record two assists.
Connolly, on the other hand, was assessed a 5-minute major and a 10-minute game misconduct. He is scheduled to have a hearing on Sunday to discuss possible further punishment from the league.
