After scoring Canada’s game-winning goal to win the gold medal at the World Juniors, Akil Thomas got an incredible homecoming reception upon his return from the Czech Republic.
Landing at the Toronto airport before his return to the OHL’s Niagara IceDogs, Thomas even got a special surprise from his mother, who is from nearby Scarborough but works in Atlanta and flew in for the occasion.
It’s a heartwarming scene for a player who delivered absolute heroics in the gold medal game, and all across the country, Thomas’ Team Canada teammates are getting similar receptions as they make their return.
We just aren’t sure what’s better: Thomas’ goal, or fellow Scarborough boy Liam Foudy crashing his interview in proper Scarbs fashion.
