March Madness is where heroes are made, dreams are reached, and champions are crowned. The NCAA tournament is famous for its stand-up-and-shout moments that have all basketball fans (and basically anyone who filled out a bracket in general) looking forward to it all year.
Of course all the celebration and good times come with a flipside – the heartbreak.
In fact, 63 of the 64 teams will have their heart broken at some point in the tournament, even if they were the far and away underdog. Case in point, when Houston almost pulled off the upset over Michigan.
In a nutshell, Devin Davis – a forward for the underdog Houston Cougars – missed two crucial free throws at the end of the game which opened the door for Michigan’s dramatic 3-point hurl that beat the buzzer and sent the Wolverines to the Sweet 16.
Can you guess which player is Devin Davis?
Moments after the buzzer beater was sunk, Davis was face down on the court feeling every little bit of the heartbreak. Even though nobody would blame Davis, as the game is much more than just a couple missed free throws, the moment is one that Davis will remember for the rest of his life.
An hour after the game, once all the fans had cleared out, Davis returned to the free throw line where he stood moments before heartbreak to soak in and capture the moment.
While Davis stood alone on the court, his teammates stood behind him emotionally. Even though they were feeling the heartbreak just as heavy, they made sure to console Davis and make sure he understood that the game was so much bigger than that moment.
That’s March Madness for you.
