ESPN’s Adam Schefter believes Tom Brady could be leaving the New England Patriots in the foreseeable future.
Schefter very clearly connected the dots ahead of the Patriots vs. Jets . First of all: Brady, along with his trainer are selling their respective homes, and second: there's a void in his contract for 2020. This was all enough for Schefter to elaborate on the possibility on air, and analyst and Hall of Fame quarterback Steve Young didn’t seem to disagree with his points.
Schefter appeared on WEEI Boston the following morning to further discuss the topic. Judging from the response, there are others who share Schefter’s opinion.
Let’s be mindful that all of this is just an opinion. The void in Brady's contract would theoretically allow him to become a free agent this summer. It’s tough to envision him leaving, especially with the Patriots undefeated to start the season. Here’s what Brady had to say on WEEI back in August regarding speculation of him leaving:
“Beyond this year, whether it is signing for five more years, or signing a franchise tag, or not playing — none of those things need to be decided this year. I think what it was was focusing on this season and being in the right mental, emotional frame of mind to go out there and perform at my highest level.”
This is going to be one interesting offseason.
