Halloween has passed but we have a bit of a late spooky story to share with you.
Ever have a dream that miraculously comes true around a month later? Well, this Reddit user has. 26 days ago, user meme-engineer explained to fellow users that he dreamt the Astros were caught for stealing signs with cameras. Rather than the loud ‘bang’ that was reported by Ken Rosenthal and Evan Drellich, the user dreamt players were informed about pitches by vibrations in their cleats instead.
“I had a dream a couple weeks back when the astros were playing the rays, it was that after the post season finished a news story came out that the astros had a team of people deciphering signs with cameras and then that team relayed the signal to transponders that were worn in the cleats of the top (trusted not to snitch) astros players, the transponders would vibrate according to what pitch was coming (example: once for fastball, twice for off speed) But it was just a dream haha. That wouldn't happen.”
And here’s how the Astros actually stole signs according to Rosenthal and Drellich’s article…
The following is an excerpt from The Athletic:
A feed from a camera in center field, fixed on the opposing catcher's signs, was hooked up to a television monitor that was placed on a wall steps from the team's home dugout at Minute Maid Park, in the tunnel that runs between the dugout and the clubhouse. Team employees and players would watch the screen during the game and try to decode signs — sitting opposite the screen on massage tables in a wide hallway.
When the onlookers believed they had decoded the signs, the expected pitch would be communicated via a loud noise — specifically, banging on a trash can, which sat in the tunnel. Normally, the bangs would mean a breaking ball or off-speed pitch was coming.
The cameras? The timing?!?!?!?! Too weird.
It turns out that the user wasn’t the only one who saw this all coming. Trevor Bauer had a suspicion of his own, albeit it wasn’t as similar.
Creepy, just… creepy.
