Workers at a golf club in Connecticut now know the reason as to why so many golf balls have gone missing over the last year.
A 58-year-old man by the name of Joesph Kolenda turned himself into authorities after a search warrant in August found approximately 2,500 stolen golf balls.
Workers at Patterson Club in Fairfield, CT., began to notice that balls started to go missing over the summer -- roughly 20,800 total since 2017. After a member of the club spotted them at a nearby driving range, authorities were alerted and realized that Kolenda had been selling them to the range for $0.73 a ball after a detective went over cover and purchased a basket of balls.
Instead of stashing them in his house or losing them in the bushes at other courses, this golfer actually tried to flip the golf balls for just under a dollar. You'd think he would've tried to remove the logos from the balls, but stupid is as stupid does.
Kolenda was charged with second-degree larceny and was released on $10,000 bail, roughly a grand less than the approximate value of the 2,500 found in his home. He's been caught stealing golf balls in the past, so we guess it's fair to call him a serial golf ball thief now.
