Corey Perry is one of those players that draws a lot of ire from hockey players and fans. He often toes the line of what’s tough hockey and what is flat out dirty. We all remember his lengthy walk of shame leaving the Winter Classic after an ugly elbow to Ryan Ellis.
On Thursday, however, this was not the case. Perry was involved in a collision with John Tavares that left the Leafs captain in trouble on the ice, eventually to be taken away on a stretcher. While Perry may be a “usual suspect” of sorts, this bang-bang play certainly didn’t look to have any intent.
Following the game, Perry was asked about the collision. Sounding dejected, the Montreal Canadiens veteran explained the accident, and how there was definitely no ill-intent on his part.
Perry ended up fighting Nick Foligno as a result of the play, and it seemed like everyone moved past it from there. Tavares was taken to the hospital, where he’ll remain overnight, and early updates are relatively positive.
One thing we’re all on the same page about, we’re hoping for a quick recovery for JT.
