Before the NBA started its three-point shooting contest for real, former NBA player Dell Curry decided to join the fray. Father of Steph and Seth, both of whom were participating in the shooting contest in front of their hometown crowd in Charlotte, Dell challenged his sons to donate $1,000 for each made shot.

He also brought along a few other NBA legends for the ride, including the league’s leader in all-time threes, Ray Allen, as well as Glen Rice and Mark Price.

In the end, the NBA legends were able to raise $35,000 for Classroom Central, a foundation that distributes free supplies to schools in high-poverty areas. This was probably a pre-arranged sum, since the legends were looking more than a little rusty throughout.

Including the money balls that count for double, the legends were only able to make a total six three-pointers on 25 shots for eight points, and Allen even went scoreless one night after lighting it up in the celebrity game. Retired NBAers: They aren’t so different than us! Still, a very cool thing to do.

In the real three-point shooting contest, Joe Harris of the Brooklyn Nets beat out Steph Curry in the final round, while Jayson Tatum and Hamidou Diallo took home honors in the skills challenge and dunk contest respectively.

Quite easily, the highlight of the night was Diallo’s reinvention of Vince Carter’s elbow dunk — with Shaq as a prop for added flair.
