Tribalism in sports is a funny thing, and especially so in any hockey rivalry between Canada and the U.S. You would figure there’s little love lost between the two sides.

However, the on-ice feud wasn’t a barrier for Gillian Apps and Meghan Duggan — the former a retired forward for Team Canada, the latter a captain on the U.S. team — as they were happily wed over the weekend.

There’s an easy joke here about switching team allegiances — Canada and the U.S.? Never! — but mostly, this is just awesome.

Apps and Duggan played against each other twice during international play, at the 2010 and 2014 Winter Olympics. Both are three-time Olympic champions, but Apps, the Canadian, gets to say that her team won gold both times the two faced off, which you just have to imagine would be a very handy claim to be able to make over your partner.

Several of the bridesmaids were also Duggan’s Olympic teammates, according to TeamUSA.org. That wedding would absolutely roast you on the ice.
