The Phoenix Suns are seeking the public's help in accumulating funds to renovate Talking Stick Resort Arena.
Owner Robert Sarver is seeking $150 million from the city of Phoenix and their citizens and has even threatened to move the team to Seattle or Las Vegas if the proposal isn't approved by the city.
During a town hall meeting with council members from the city, one fan let her feelings be known on what she thought of how Sarver has handled the team.
Meet 90-year-old Greta Rogers.
After her rant, the Rogers expanded on her thoughts in an interview with The Phoenix News Times.
“The Suns have been a failure as long as he’s owned them, because he won’t invest in two or three top-grade players because that costs money, real money. As long as he runs this teams the way he’s run it, it will be a failure.
… We don’t have $150 million or any figure above that flopping around in a miscellaneous account wanting or wishing to be used before it goes obsolete and goes into a big slush fund for anything. We have infrastructural problems in this city, primarily streets. We did a major sewer replacement on Southern Avenue a couple years ago, from the Tempe line and then north. We have water line issues coming up.”
Much like the Coyotes off-ice struggles, it's unfortunate to see the team's arena and ownership be on the forefront of controversy in what seems like a pretty solid sports market.
