There have been some DUST hockey helmets in history. A lot of them have come from between the pipes but today, we're focusing on the players.
Helmets have drastically evolved over time, to the point where there really are no ugly ones being made anymore. Some of the biggest companies in the world have simply figured it out, but that obviously has not always been the case. Let's take a trip down memory lane and remember some of the dustiest buckets ever made. Some of these were seen on NHL surfaces while others have just been used casually in beer leagues.
So let's get started, shall we? In no particular order...
BUTCH GORING'S SNAPS HELMET
You knew this one was going to crack the list. You could literally see his head through the top of the helmet!!!! This one definitely would not fly in today's NHL but it was undoubtedly the craziest dome of his generation.
COOPER XL7
Arguably the ugliest helmet of all time, the Cooper XL7 was essentially like entering a cave. it had massive ear protectors on the sides and kind of looked like it had a bunch of broadcasting microphones all over it (sounds weird, but take a close look). Yikes.
NIKE QUEST
This one was kind of cool but let's all agree it had some dusty components. The design was weird and the whole thing was pretty bulky. It's so awesome though to see players still rocking this puppy in beer league games.
STAN MIKTA NORTHLAND BUCKET
It's not like there were that many helmet options back in the day, but this one was still pretty ugly nonetheless. You will probably never see anything remotely like this on a hockey rink again.
THE MESSIER CASCADE
This one may look safe but... that's about it. Way too bulky and absolutely zero style appeal. No thanks.
MESSIER WINWELL
Speaking of Messier... the man had some trouble finding a stylish helmet. This one is iconic but let's be real... it's really not that nice.
THE JOFA 366 VISER-ETT
You knew it was coming... Such a thing of beauty but you have to admit that it's pretty dust at the same time. except on Teemu,, of course.
ITECH TECH LITE
Oy vey. That is all.
So... thoughts?
