At this point, pulling off the “Michigan” or a “Lacrosse Style” goal is somewhat of a bucket list item for young skill players. While players in past eras would likely be afraid of taking a cross-check to teeth, it seems like the skilled goal is becoming more and more accepted in the game.
That doesn’t make it easy, though.
On Saturday, Regina Pats star 15-year-old Connor Bedard almost joined the ranks of those to successfully pull it off in a game. Playing against the Winnipeg Ice in WHL action, Bedard got the puck on his stick and almost tucked it behind Ice goaltender Daniel Hauser.
Bedard, who received exceptional status to compete in the WHL early, leads the league in points despite being much smaller and younger than those he’s playing with and against. Born in 2005, Bedard is only 5’9 but absolutely thriving with 22 points thus far, two of which came during Saturday’s loss to the Ice.
This kid is going to be a lot of fun to watch develop.
