Anthony Edwards was the star of the 2020 NBA Draft, being selected #1 overall by the Minnesota Timberwolves. It basically came down to Edwards, James Wiseman, or LaMelo Ball, but when the pick was announced, it was Edwards celebrating.
When the cameras cut to Edwards reaction, it was clear he didn’t want to be the only one in the spotlight. Sitting on a couch, Edwards had two portraits next to him, one of his mother and another of his grandmother. Both women were lost to cancer, but Edwards wanted to give them credit for helping him become the man who he is; a #1 overall draft pick.
While Edwards would have obviously loved for them to be sitting next to him, he wanted to ensure that they were close by.
Perhaps even a bit of a good luck charm as Adam Silver read out his name before anyone else’s!
