Yes, we all know that Toronto Maple Leafs forward William Nylander is a better offensive player than Boston Bruins goaltender Jaroslav Halak (what a ridiculous sentence), but sometimes slumps are most glaringly illustrated by a whacky stat.
That is, if you don’t count them being illustrated by the hard spotlight following Nylander’s infamous holdout and eventual large contract.
Jaroslav Halak has managed to rack up three assists on the season so far, which is high for a goaltender. Unfortunately for Nylander, the same point total is low for a forward who’s played 18 games. Let alone a forward that just signed a contract as juicy as his.
That is the case, though! Halak’s three assists matches the point total of Nylander, who has potted a goal and registered two apples as well. In fact, Halak gets the nod when it comes to who robots deciding who should start on offence:
One argument bound to be made is that Halak has played in more games. While this is true, it’s not like he’s played in every game this season. In fact, he’s only played in seven more games than Nylander.
Not the start Nylander wanted, but he’s bound to come around eventually. We’d venture a guess that he is likely going to outscore all goalies by the end of the year, but who knows?
