Vin Scully called for Fernando Valenzuela out of the bullpen to throw out the opening pitch

When you’re on the word stage, you need to bring out the best in the world, plain and simple.

That was the case for Game 2 of the World Series when the Dodgers brought out legendary broadcaster Vin Scully.

Scully, 89, was on hand at Dodgers Stadium for a pre-game ceremony to toss out the opening pitch. In Scully like fashion, Scully delighted the Dodger faithful by saying he’d been working on his arm by playing catch with his wife. As Scully went to throw the pitch with former Dodgers catch Steve Yeagar behind the plate, he jokingly pretended that he injured his shoulder.

As a result, Scully needed to call the bullpen and bring in a lefty specialist. The reliever?  None other than Dodgers great Fernando Valenzuela.

Scully, like the true iconic play-by-play man he is, started firing off Valanzuela’s pitching accolades.

 “I think I tore my rotator cuff. I need a left-hander to relieve me.”

The best moment, though, was when Scully got the sellout crowd to say his signature chant with him.
