The new year is officially here and the next big international sporting event is upon us as the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang are right around the corner.
Usually hockey fans are very interested in the Olympics because the best players from around the world get the chance to play together and represent their country, but this year things are a little different.
NHL players won't be participating in the Olympics, so the rosters for powerhouses such as Canada and the United States will look very different from what fans have come to expect over the years.
On Monday, hockey fans got discovered that fact first hand as Team USA's roster for the 2018 Olympics was announced.
As per USA Hockey's website, the men's roster features 15 players with NHL experience. Captain Brian Gionta leads the way in that department with over 1,000 NHL games under his belt. He also represented USA at the Olympics in 2006. USA's roster also features four NCAA players, three of who have been drafted by NHL teams. USA Hockey also announced the Women's and Paralympic rosters for the 2018 Winter Olympics.
