Urban Meyer’s tumultuous time in Jacksonville has mercifully come to a close. The former college coach entered the NFL surrounded by question marks, and he exited surrounded by exclamation marks following a rocky 2-11 start to the Jaguars season.
While lack of success of the field was one shortcoming of Meyer’s, it was all the off-field stuff that truly sunk him in the court of public opinion.
It seemed like every week there was something new coming out about Meyer. Whether it be reports of an abusive attitude towards players or staff underlings, or unsavoury videos captured and then put into the viral-sphere, there wasn’t much going Meyer’s way.
Throughout the year, the NFL community had become more and more critical of Meyer. Seeing as there are two sides to every story, Meyer’s second oldest daughter Gisela – or Gigi – took to Instagram to advocate for her father.
Posted alongside a collection of photos featuring her father smiling and hugging former college players, Gigi called out those speaking badly of her father and the media.
The Enemy (aka the world) REALLY doesn’t wanna see good people win. & you can argue whether my dad is a “good person” or not based on what you see in the media (super reliable source of info as we know) Anyone who truly knows us knows how incredible he is as a person. & the world hates any platform we have, so he’s going to create chaos to destroy it. Little does he know he’s making it stronger. It’s not over. Keep watching.
Following some more photos of a happy Urban, Gigi continued:
The enemy wants us to crumble & crawl into a hole. But I think you just released the kraken in me.
How do you feel about these comments? Does Urban Meyer deserve the barrage of criticism he’s received, or has it been over the top?
