Larry David and Jerry Seinfeld are huge baseball fans and they both found many ways to incorporate the sport into Seinfeld episodes during the time they spent working together on the show.
Although the show has been off the air for nearly 20 years, you can still find reruns just about anywhere you look and can still find people referencing episodes on a daily basis.
On Saturday night, two teams out of the New York-Penn League showed their appreciation for the show by hosting special Seinfeld-themed nights at the ballpark.
In Norwich, Connecticut, the Tigers hosted the Staten Island Yankees on a night they dubbed “Summer of George Night”, which was their way of saluting Jason Alexander’s character George Costanza. As part of the night special night, the Tigers used a Seinfeld-themed video board and also gave the first 1,000 fans in attendance their an Assistant to the Traveling Secretary bobblehead.
The other team to host a Seinfeld-themed night was the Brooklyn Cyclones. The New York Mets’ Short-Season A affiliate opened up a three-game series against the Lowell Spinners by hosting a Salute to Seinfeld Night.
The first 2,000 fans in attendance received a “No Soup For You” bobblehead and fans also had a chance to purchase a Seinfeld Night collectable trading pin at the team store, which featured an image of Jackie Chiles, played by Phil Morris, who was also in attendance signing autographs.
The team’s social media team carried the theme over to Twitter and used some fantastic gifs throughout the night during their play-by-play of the game.
This is definitely one theme night we can get behind and would like to see a lot more of throughout baseball and other sports.
