Tkachuk speared Martin from the bench during scrum and Martin had some strong words for him

Wednesday night, the Leafs and Flames wrapped up their season series as they met in Toronto in what was a hard fought and closely contested game that ended with the Leafs winning in a shootout.

One of the things everyone is talking about Thursday, though, is what happened during a scrum in the game in the first period.

The scrum occurred in front of the Flames' bench and while on the bench, Matthew Tkachuk appeared to spear Matt Martin.

After the game, Martin responded to the spear and had some strong words for Tkachuk.

Matt Martin called Matthew Tkachuk’s spearing “child’s play” - “If you’re going to do something like that, may as well make it count and try to hurt somebody.”

Also said he’s fine, if anyone was concerned.

Martin on Tkachuk: "You can play with an edge, for sure. I think he's an effective player. I think he's a good player. When you're sitting on the bench or the situation in Detroit ... it's not really necessary ... I don't think it's a good hockey play by any means"

Martin expect league to look at Tkachuk spear for possible supplemental discipline? "Maybe. It's not really my call. I don't really get involved with that. (Shrugs) It's the second time in the last little while I've seen him do something like that."

At just 19-years-old, Tkachuk already has somewhat of a reputation for doing things like this, and earlier this season he did something similar against the Red Wings.

He was suspended one game for his role in what happened against Detroit, and he could also be suspended for this spear as the Department of Player Safety announced Thursday Tkachuk will have a hearing for his actions.
