Jake Muzzin is coming home to the team he cheered for as a young kid growing in Woodstock, Ontario.

The newest Toronto Maple Leafs defenceman will wear No. 8 when he makes his debut on Friday night in Detroit, approximately 234 km west from his hometown.

Back in 2013 before he won a Stanley Cup with the Los Angeles Kings, Muzzin shared a throwback photo on his Instagram account from his early days when he was an avid Leafs fan.

“Playing hockey at a young age, we looked up to Doug Gilmour, Wendel Clark. We were all Felix Potvin in net. It’s kind of funny how life works. Here we are, I’m coming home to the team I rooted for growing up.”

Muzzin is expected to suit up on the Leafs top pairing with Morgan Rielly and will bolster the Leafs penalty kill and can play both the left and right side.
