Giannis Antetokounmpo won't be a free agent until the end of the 2020-'21 season, but on Monday night Raptors fans showed why the 'Greek Freak' may want to consider Toronto as a possible destination.
The Milwaukee Bucks traveled to Toronto to take on the Raptors on New Year's Day in a rematch of the first round of the 2017 NBA Playoffs. DeRozan scored a franchise-high 52 points, as the Raptors outdueled the Bucks 131-127 in overtime to take the win. After the game, Raptors fans waited around at the Air Canada Centre to serenade one of the players with supportive chants, but it wasn't DeRozan...or even a member of the Raptors for that matter.
The person fans waited for was Giannis. Toronto has one of the largest Greek communities in North America, and they came out in full force on Monday to cheer on Antetokounmpo, who was born in Athens, Greece.
Now how about that for a reason to sign in Toronto in free agency. Okay, okay, so Antetokounmpo won't be a free agent for a few years and the fans who waited for him were there to express national pride, not campaign for 2021. Still, that kind of support surely doesn't hurt the Raptors' chances...
