In his lone season playing for the Blues, Patrick Maroon became a fast fan favourite. There’s something about a guy who genuinely connects with the fanbase, who takes less money to play for his hometown team, and, of course, who helps bring a Stanley Cup to the city that people will find endearing.

So, when Maroon returns to St. Louis as a member of the Lightning on Tuesday evening, waterworks could be in play. He’ll get his championship ring from the team, and you can be sure he’ll get an electric ovation from the crowd.

Lightning coach Jon Cooper would definitely like to see his veteran get a little emotional out there.

Although he was seen as the heart and soul of the Blues’ championship team, Maroon hung around for a while in free agency before securing a one-year contract with the Lightning in August. He’s off to a fine start with four goals and three assists for his new team.

One thing’s for sure: It’ll be nice for Maroon to finally his ring, or at least the real thing. Austin Watson will like that, we think.
