As much as we love the Winter Classic for the atmosphere and incredible moments the game creates, we love the awesome jerseys that are worn even more.
The entire hockey game experience is different when it comes to the Winter Classic, including jerseys you've either never seen before because you're too young or have seen before that bring memories flooding back.
In total, 20 different Winter Classic jerseys have been worn (that will be official when the Sabres and Rangers game gets underway on January 1st), and for the most part they've all looked rather spectacular. There are some that stand out from the pack though, and then there are some that we're happy we won't ever see again (fingers crossed).
Since there are so many awesome jerseys, we decided it would be best to create the definitive Winter Classic Jersey Power Rankings. We know many won't agree with the rankings, which is exactly what we want. Let us know which jersey takes the top spot in your mind and we'll try and do better next time. Enjoy!
20. Philadelphia Flyers, 2010
And the award for the worst Winter Classic jersey of all-time goes to...the Philadelphia Flyers.
There's nothing to see here. It's the plain jane of Winter Classic jerseys, which is why it is where it is on this list.
19. Buffalo Sabres, 2008
Speaking of plain, the Sabres' Winter Classic jersey is pretty much that.
The only thing saving it from being tied with the Flyers' sweater is the fact that they have their first ever logo on it, which is also on their current jerseys.
18. Chicago Blackhawks, 2015
Chicago's jerseys are widely considered to be the best in the NHL, but this particular sweater just doesn't do it for us.
The player numbers and "C" logo on the sleeves is a nice touch though.
17. Philadelphia Flyers, 2012
Ah, the first jersey with a primary colour that's not white!
The orange makes this Flyers' sweater pop and it has a nice old time hockey feel to it, too.
16. Chicago Blackhawks, 2017
Chicago went way back in time with their 2017 Winter Classic jerseys for their game against the Blues.
The logo isn't exactly the same as the one the teams of the 50s wore, but it is very, very similar.
15. New York Rangers, 2012
Quick note, you've probably already disagreed with one jersey on this list, and really that is to be expected. When it comes to jerseys, some may like a certain look while others may not.
You can argue for any sweater to be number one on this list is what we're saying.
Now, back to the list. There's an old school vibe that this Rangers' jersey gives off, which we really like. The logo on the sweater is also oval shaped at the bottom, like the Ranger logos before the 1950s were.
14. Boston Bruins, 2016
The Bruins' sweaters they wore during last year's winter classic fall just outside of the top ten, but don't worry Boston fans, there's one more jersey still to come.
That being said, this is one awesome looking jersey.
13. Detroit Red Wings, 2009
Detroit's logo, which is a tribute to the Detroit Cougars, the first hockey team in the franchise's history, is really cool.
We just would have liked to see the "Red Wing" we're so accustomed to seeing.
12. Montreal Canadiens, 2016
The Habs' Winter Classic jerseys are similar to Detroit's.
The logo's a throwback, but the colour scheme is different, and it worked. The globe on the side is also a really cool detail. All in all, it's a solid jersey.
11. Pittsburgh Penguins, 2011
Pittsburgh's 2011 Winter Classic jersey is in the same boat as the Bruins one we mentioned earlier.
We like their first outdoor sweater a lot better. That being said, the best part of this jersey, aside from the colour scheme, is the Penguin wearing a scarf.
10. Washington Capitals, 2011
9. New York Rangers, 2018
One of two new additions to the rankings, the Rangers' sweaters for their outdoor game against the Sabres look extremely sharp in our opinion.
They're also a nod to the jerseys the team wore during their expansion season (1926-27).
8. Pittsburgh Penguins, 2008
There's just something about the Penguins' baby blue Winter Classic jerseys that makes us want one really, really, really badly.
7. Detroit Red Wings, 2014
These are the Red Wings' jerseys we were looking for in 2009. Better late than never though.
The colour is sharp, the old school feel is there, and it has the famous Detroit logo rather than the letter "D."
6. Buffalo Sabres, 2018
There's really nothing not to like about the Sabres' sweaters for the 2018 Winter Classic.
The original team crest is featured and, the "NY" is there for the location of the game and the we imagine Buffalo fans would love it if the team rocked these all the time.
5. Boston Bruins 2010
What's not to like about the Bruins 2010 Winter Classic jerseys?
Unless you're not a fan of the colour yellow, which is perfectly understandable, then you probably love this sweater like we do.
4. Toronto Maple Leafs, 2014
Much like Detroit's jerseys, Toronto's for the 2014 Winter Classic were just as awesome.
It's just a visually appealing jersey. It's simple, yet awesome. And the old version of the Leaf made it that much better.
3. St. Louis Blues, 2017
Like the Blackhawks, the Blues went way back with their Winter Classic jerseys.
The throwback sweater is a re-creation of St. Louis' inaugural look from the 1967-68 season, and it's absolutely incredible.
2. Washington Capitals, 2015
Do the Capitals know how to make jerseys or what?
It has the stars like the throwback sweater, it has the big "W" and it has a very unique colour.
1. Chicago Blackhawks, 2009
Like we said before, the Blackhawks arguably have the best jerseys in hockey, and their Winter Classic sweaters were further proof of this.
Chicago's jersey in 2009 was an incredible tribute to the teams' jerseys of the 40s, 50s, and 60s.
