In case you missed it, one of the more notable events from the weekend’s opening series of CFL games was when Marcell Young, defensive back for the BC Lions, absolutely crushed an intruder on the field.
Now, this was very funny for all of us! Certainly, Young’s hit carried a bit more oomph than necessary, but that’s just the game you play when you choose to disrupt a game played by professional athletes, right? However you feel about the humour of streaking, there is definitely humour in watching a streaker get their just deserts.
Unfortunately, this streaker seems to disagree. He has retained the services of Preszler Law Firm, which said through a statement released Wednesday that the fan “suffered serious injuries, including a mild traumatic brain injury, as a result of being violently struck by BC Lions player Marcell Young."
It’s unlikely, however, that any legal action would be successful, as University of British Columbia sports law professor Joe Weiler points out that the fan would be legally considered as a trespasser on the field.
That’s probably for the best, because it would be incredibly lame if Young was successfully sued for this.
