Carlos Beltran has announced his retirement from the MLB, ending a fantastic 20-year career. Beltran used The Player's Tribune to send off his final words to the fans and the league, which is becoming an increasingly popular way for athletes to call it quits.
Beltran's career was stretched across tenures with seven different teams (Astros, Mets, Yankees, Royals, Cardinals, Rangers, and Giants). Throughout his career, Beltran had the rare and enviable balance of speed, power, and consistency.
Beltran appeared in nine all-star games, won three Gold Gloves, two Silver Slugger awards, became a member of the 30-30 club (30 home runs and 30 stolen bases) and fell just two home runs shy of the 40-40 club. In 2017, Beltran finally won the World Series as a member of the Houston Astros.
On Monday, various teams, players, and analysts bid farewell to the retiring superstar.
It shouldn't be long before the Hall of Fame gets in contact with Beltran. Farewell, Carlos!
