The NHL Awards were held on Wednesday night and along with the awards that were handed out, the first and second-team all-stars were revealed.
Everything looks pretty normal on the teams, but once the votes were revealed, things looked a little weirder. Both Patrick Kane and Leon Draisaitl received votes at more than one position for the award. Now, it doesn’t seem to have changed the results too much (Draisaitl may have moved up to third in voting if all of his were for the same position), and it might even be a compliment to Draisaitl who was pretty versatile for his team.
As you’ll see, Patrick Kane also received votes at both right and left wing. For Draisaitl, he has played all three positions, but he is listed as a centre on the NHL website (Although most people are looking at him as a LW at this point). It does make sense that he would receive most of his votes at a wing position though, because if you combine left and right wing, that’s where he played most frequently throughout the season.
Patrick Kane on the other hand has been a right winger for a long time, so we’re not sure where that came from. The same thing also seemed to happen last year with Claude Giroux, where some people didn’t seem to get the message about his position change.
