Even as they squared off against each other in their quarterfinal match on Wednesday night, No. 6 Novak Djokovic and unseeded John Millman found some middle ground. Drenched in sweat, Millman stopped play to ask Djokovic if he could change to a new outfit — and Djokovic was more than happy to take a pause.
Even in a match that started at 9pm local time and extended through midnight, there was no reprieve from the heat. The last leg of summer is sweeping through the East Coast right now, so we get it. It’s hot out there.
While we’re laughing at this, though — and it’s funny! — it’s also worth noting that the image of a grinning, shirtless Djokovic also prompted some viewers to point back to the double standard that became a controversy at the US Open last week, when Alize Cornet was assessed a code violation for briefly changing her shirt.
