The Edmonton Oilers haven't been able to replicate their success from the 2016-17 season but team captain Connor McDavid has been enjoying a successful campaign of his own. In 45 games, the 21-year-old has collected 15 goals and 35 assists, leading the next highest Oiler Leon Draisaitl by 15 points.

The Oilers head to Vegas tonight and will play in what has the feel of a must-win matchup. At 19-23-3, Edmonton is well outside the playoffs and a Pacific Division win over one of the league's top teams could be the spark they need to turn things around. The Golden Knights are no stranger to McDavid’s genius, as he helped hand Vegas their worst loss of the season in an 8-2 defeat in Edmonton. Connor led the way with two goals and an assist, and will hope to replicate his success tonight at T-Mobile Arena. Ahead of the contest, the Golden Knight's Twitter account revealed what they believe will be the key to a win.
Yeah, sounds about right.
Despite the Oilers’ underwhelming record, the team is 7-5 when McDavid scores a goal this season. The 2015 first overall pick is celebrating his birthday today so he should be feeling a bit of a jolt tonight on the ice.
Edmonton heads into a six-day break following tonight’s game and a win would make their first trip to Vegas together all the better.
