While the St. Louis Blues are enjoying what can only be described as an unprecedented revival of a season. After coming into 2019 in dead last place in the NHL, the Blues have charged their way up the standings and are now officially in the Stanley Cup Final.
One thing that they’ve been doing well all year (and the list of things in this category is slim) is staying out of the box.
Particularly in the playoffs, the Blues have been extremely disciplined while still playing an intense style of hockey. They seem to have found the perfect medium between standing their ground and doing so in a legal way.
One odd stat that is a testament to this is that the combined career penalty minutes of the Blues’ three coaches – head coach Craig Berube, assistants Steve Ott and Mike Van Ryn – have more combined penalty minutes than the entire Blues roster combined.

It may be a representation of a changing of the game, or maybe the Blues just like to keep their enforcers behind the bench instead of on it, but it’s still an interesting stat.
