Just when you thought the Battle of Alberta was starting to cool down, well, it’s definitely not.
In the first period there was a 1-on-1 fight between Jujhar Khaira and Buddy Robinson. It wasn’t anything like Kassian vs. Tkachuk, but it was a reminder that these two teams still don’t like each other. How much do they dislike each other? Enough to have an outright brawl apparently.
In the final minute of the second period, Sam Gagner took a swipe at a puck that appeared to be covered by Cam Talbot, and that led to an absolute donnybrook.
The brawl was wild as scraps broke out all over the ice, but then Cam Talbot and Mike Smith locked eyes. It was time for a good ol’ goalie fight.
Mike Smith definitely got the better of Talbot and landed a bunch of solid right hands. Both goalies were ejected from the game and the second period came to a close with 24 seconds remaining. Following the intermission, the teams wrapped up the final seconds of the 2nd period before moving onto the third.
It’s not just Tkachuk vs. Kassian anymore, nobody is safe. Unfortunately, we have to wait until April 4th for the next installment.
